When I got off birth control pills for painful cramps, it changed my hormones and now i have this hair problem on my face and around my nipples. Since I remove the hair via razor, i now have discoloring. i have such a nice face and now it's blemished. :( I went to a endocrinologist which did nothing. they put me on spirolactone and to me it seems like my hair on my head was falling out! Please let me know what I can do.
I have facial hair supposingly a disorder called hirsutism.?
Dear Sunshines,
So much can factor in your problem with facial/body hair. Seems to be initiated by your discontinued use of birth control pills.
How old are you?
How much do you weigh?
What was the strength of the birth control?
Birth control is perfect for so many women, normally shortening the cycle and less blood flow. Still have the cramps tho, oh well. (600-800 mg. of Ibuprofen can do wonders, if you can tolerate it. Just about every one can!)
Dr's have discovered the dosage in the pills can be small, and also can be a wonderful aid to women with a low estrogen levels, usually correcting this problem.
Have you had your hormone level tested? Have a complete blood panel done, with a thyroid panel as well.
Usually hormone levels, thyroid levels, weight and age can cause this. Most the time it can be easily remedied, but you need a reputable GYN or an Endocrinologist, (hormone Dr. , hormones rule our life!!! We even need them to feel hungry and full!) To solve your problem, go to a reputable GYN, have your blood work up done, lose weight if you have to and can, If the GYN can't help you with a low dose of birth control and Ibuprofen, get him to refer you to a reputable Endo. Check for endometriosis. If need be pay $$ for this care. Your last MD should be checking out all this for you, hirsutism is totally a disorder than can be remedied. Good Luck!!! Joyous Joy LTR, RTL!
Stop shaving!!!There are other ways to remove this hair until it stops growing

I have it too. There is an awesome treatment out there called vaniqa - go to www.vaniqa.com.
This product actually prevents hair from growing back. Takes about 4-6 weeks to work but it does work.
You have to get it by prescription and can only use it on your face. I just pluck out the hair on my nipples. I also take Diane35 which is a birth control pill that is specially formulated to counter the effects of excess androgens. It slows the hair growth a little, since I started taking it, the hair on my nipples grows back very very slowly. This pill also helps with acne caused by hormones. It is also marketed as dianette and there is another one out there called yasmin. Ask your doctor - please try vaniqa though it really works.
There is a disorder called PCOS - poly cystic ovary syndrome that screws up hormones. If you had painful periods it is very likely that you may have ovarian cysts. Google "PCOS Symptoms" to see if you fit the bill, if you do talk to your doctor about possible treatment options.

Hirsutism simply means hairy. It can have many endocrine causes.
